About Flokati rugs
Invented by the Vlachs in a small Pindos mountain village in 5th-century Greece, Flokati rugs were first used to keep shepherds and villagers warm. Village women would craft the rugs in a way that has changed little over time. Flokati rugs are first hand-woven and then hand-stitched. Following this process, they are placed in friction baths created from waterfalls in the Pindos mountains, where the intense water pressure unravels the pile and fluffs them out. The rugs are then carefully hung out to dry and inspected to ensure quality.
