Kids rugs go through a lot of heavy-duty use. Following a regular care and maintenance routine won't make your kids less rambunctious, but it will help to prolong the life of your area rugs. Here are some tips for regular, preventative,
and emergency cleaning.
Routine Maintenance
Kids rugs should be vacuumed as often as you vacuum your home. Buying a rug pad to place underneath your childrens rug will significantly reduce the amount of dirt it picks up, and thus the frequency of your vacuuming.
To avoid pilling the rug, set your vacuum's "height" to medium or high. Your vacuum should skim the rug, not drag it. If you find that your vacuum isn't getting most of the dirt, we recommend taking your kids rug out on your porch or balcony every few weeks and patting or shaking it out.
Preventative Maintenance
If your kids rug tends to pick up odors, treat it regularly with an odor-repelling
spray, or let it air out once every month during appropriate weather.

One simple way to spread wear across a rug's surface is to rotate it every
few months, and if room permits, reposition it or alternate length-wise and width-wise
placement.
To preserve the bright and colorful appearance of kids rugs, try to position
them in areas where sunlight is indirect or intermittent. Or buy a childrens rug made from a more sun-resistant material such as acrylic.
Every year or so, give your kids rug a thorough cleaning with an appropriate
oxygen or "oxy" cleaner.

Emergency Maintenance
Spills happen with kids rugs. Always blot as quickly as you can with a cloth or paper towel. Water-based spills should be cleaned with a mild, bleach-free detergent and rinsed with water and a little white vinegar. Hang dry, or use a hair dryer for more focused drying. With serious or oil-based spills, call a professional rug cleaner.
